Manufacturing of the Platinum range of outdoor lights, originated in 1993, within a small manufacturing outfit in Yorkshire. This was long before the LED boom which started when Phillips LumiLEDs released the first one Watt LED in the late ‘90s. The development and manufacturing of these lights has grown over the 25 years since, where now the lights are used by numerous prestigious companies such as the MOD and Rolls Royce. The lights are of the highest quality and I will go into some detail on how they are manufactured below.
All the platinum range of outdoor lights are machined by local engineers to our specifications, whether it be aluminium, copper or stainless steel. No engineered component are imported from abroad or relabel and reboxed. When it says “hand built in Britain” it really does mean that. Besides our standard product range a big part of our business is manufacturing bespoke solutions that are unique to each customer.
All Platinum range of outdoor lighting designs are born from ideas in house and then taken from concept, prototype, pre- production then to manufacture. Our stringent quality control means that no product leaves the factory before undergoing a series of tests for a minimum of 72 hours. The reason for this is if there are any faulty components they will show up and fail in this test time. The majority of imported products are flash tested which means on and off once and then boxed.
All the Platinum range LED’s and components are sourced from multinational companies such as Phillips, Bridgelux, Osram etc. All our LED luminaires are designed to be repaired or refurbished when they come to the end of their life. A good example of this is recently the manufacturer refurbished 21 lights that were originally manufactured and sold 12 years ago to a company in Ireland. The original housings were refitted with the latest technology. This is quite the opposite to a large percentage of imported products which fails in the first 6 – 18 months and then ends up in our landfill.
Every outdoor light design is assembled by one individual who sees that one product through from start to finish. Our products do not pass down an assembly line, they are hand built by one member of staff. This achieves a very high quality and accountability. The unique serial number on each product identifies who built the light, who it was built for, when it was built and what components were used.
